Voter Groups (Advanced Ballot Feature)

If you have a Gold or Platinum subscription plan, you can use Voter Groups.

Voter Groups let you display some pages of a ballot to one group of voters, and not to others.

For example, if you were running a state wide election for your association, some offices (e.g., President) may be elected at large, while other offices (e.g., Directors) may be elected on a district by district basis.  If you designated one Voter Group for each district, you could design your ballot to allow voters in all Voter Groups to vote for President, but only allow voters in each specific district to vote for their corresponding director.

Enabling this feature

To enable these features, go to the Questions tab of your poll, and click on Ballot Options (the gear icon).  Select “Advanced” under the Features dropdown, and click Accept.  (Note: Only Gold and Platinum subscription plans have access to Advanced Ballot Features.)

Setting up Voter Groups

Once Advanced Ballot Features are enabled, you can Add Voter Group.  In the dialog box shown below, there are already two Voter Groups, A and B.  (We do recommend that you use more helpful Voter Group names than this, however.)

Specifying which voters are in which Voter Group

If you Add Voter, you'll be given an opportunity to specify which Voter Group that voter belongs to, if any.  For that reason, we recommend that you set up your Voter Groups before you add your voters.

If you import voters, you will similarly be asked to specify which Voter Group or Voter Groups each voter belongs to.  And note that a voter can belong to more than one Voter Group.  For example, a voter could be in the "Board of Directors," "District 8," and "Young Lawyers Association" Voter Groups at the same time.

If your Voters list has Voter Groups, you will see that information on the Voters tab:

Specifying which Voter Group sees which ballot page

Once you have voters categorized by Voter Groups, you can specify whether a ballot page will be visible to all voters (which is the default setting), or whether only specified Voter Groups will be presented those questions:

Those controls will not appear unless you have Advanced Ballot Features set, and you have at least one Voter Group set up.

Note:  You can condition ballot pages by Voter Group, but you cannot condition individual ballot questions

Tip: This feature is available to our turn-key support customers with Gold or Platinum Subscriptions, so you do not have to become an expert in Voter Groups.  BallotBox personnel are more than happy to administer all aspects of your poll for you, including the management of Voter Groups.
